Glaucoma is a worldwide epidemiological challenge affecting approximately four percent of the global population with an estimated fifty percent of glaucoma cases remaining undiagnosed. World Glaucoma Week seeks to raise awareness of this 'silent' eye condition.
In Australia, glaucoma is a major couse of sight loss in adults over the age of 40. There are generally no warning signs and is therefore often referred to as the 'sneak thief of sight'.
Australians are encouraged to undertake an eye check as early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are paramount in saving vision from glaucoma.
